A vision for enhancing human understanding
The New Center for Arts and Culture is a dynamic new arena for exploring our cultural diversities and commonalities through arts and ideas. The New Center is the fulfillment of a vision for enhancing human understanding while fostering respect, admiration and engagement among people of different backgrounds and interests. Those around the corner and those across the globe.
We are a new model for engaging and celebrating the world's cultures while building bridges between neighborhoods here in Boston.
Through lively, engaging, and provocative world-class exhibitions, performances, lectures, family activities, and public programs, we strengthen the powerful bonds of community across different cultures and boundaries and provide a gathering place for the examination and exchange of new ideas.
The New Center is the place where cultures will meet in entertaining, substantive, and often profound ways.
Helping heal the world
Initiated and founded by leaders of Greater Boston's Jewish community, the New Center makes meaningful connections among different cultures as it also highlights aspects of Jewish art, heritage, values, ideas and their relationship to contemporary issues. By serving as a catalyst for creative cooperation and exploration between peoples, the New Center fulfills the ancient Jewish imperative to help heal the world - because the role of the Jewish people has never been to make the world more Jewish, but to make it more humane.
A Stunning Landmark
Designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the New Center will be a stunning landmark on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, across from the iconic arch of Rowe's Warf. When completed in 2012, its presence will contribute to the rejuvenation of downtown Boston and to the reclamation of its magnificent waterfront for cultural and public use. The New Center will honor our remarkably diverse city, where young people and adults from many nations speak countless languages and dialogues, affording future generations' experiences that render them more tolerant, more appreciative and more engaged with the world around them. As they grow to embrace diversity, tomorrow's citizens will learn to understand and respect the richness of the arts and the people of different cultures.
